I would definitely be interested in one made of steel for around that price, what is the lightest gauge you could do? Also, to be honest I really only need the "hump," not so much the "seat" area. Would you be willing to just sell the steel "hump"?

Nice. This is exactly what I was thinking. Side question- the bolts that hold the carb "boot" to the head, do they have a torque spec? If so, how does one get a socket on it? I can't even get a box end on them let alone a socket.

I got a jet kit that had (2) 150 jets and (2) 145s. I went straight for the biggest jets, which seems to have cleared up the sputtering top end. But it seems to be lean at the 4K-6K range now. Will using the smaller 145 jets "richen" up the mid range? Or is it possible I need to go even BIGGER...

Damn, looks like I'm on my own with this project. I knew finding someone with the exact same problem on the exact same day was too good to be true. Enjoy riding your bike while I'm still getting these damn tips out. I'm just not sold that it is impossible yet.

I work for a fab company and we do powdercoating, s I'm gonna throw it in the oven for a while and heat it up to 400 and see what I can do. Good call on the boiling idea, in theory it sounds like a plausible solution, but my only concern would be water in the carb. Probably not anything to worry...
