Turn signal does not stay on

Hi community, I have a 1982 XS400 Heritage Special and recently the signal switch has stopped working in the sense that if it is clicked over and released, it will indicate but only for a second. It used to stay on for the that predetermined amount of distance. The quick "fix" is that I just...

    Carb: Small back O-ring?

After cleaning my carbs and putting them back together, I found a small black o-ring (less than 1/4") sitting on my work desk. I found only one and after taking it all apart again to find its brother, I could only still find the one. I think it might have to do the pilot (idle) mixture screw...

Turn Signal/Blinker don't wanna blink no more.

Hey, It happened just a couple days ago. It was working fine, but now when I use the switch to indicate a turn to the left or right, it flashes once but will not remain on the for duration/distance it is supposed to. I'm having to hold down the toggle in the appropriate direction when riding...

    running lean??

Blueish pipes would tell me shes is running lean, as lean engines run hotter. Changes in exhaust piper colour is from excessive heat. I agree with drewpy. The ceramic around the electrode is white, if it was running rich it would be black too like the outside edge of the spark plug.

Had to put on some new mufflers. Rejet?

Hey, Last fall along my travels a hair-line crack in my stock exhaust turned into a full disassembling of my left exhaust. It got loud  . So...I just put on some new pipes, a sorta fits-all type, that still look good and are about the same size. Now while they do have some fiber-glass...

    Popping from the left.

Hey all. I'm getting a little bit of popping to the occasional backfire from the left cylinder, especially when down shifting or when settling to idle. Idles perfectly and starts great. Last season I rebuilt the carbs and cleaned them well. I set the idle mixture screw to 3 turns on both...

    Can anyone ID this part?!

Hey, Partsnmore has the best prices I have seen so far for air-filters and the intake carb holder set you should replace... I stupidly paid $60 for an air-filter last season... Hope the repairs go well http://www.partsnmore.com/parts/yamaha/xs400s/

    Funny Idle

So took off the carbs again, found that the caps had been removed from the idle mixture screws previously; so I took the screws out along with the rest of the hardware, cleaned with carb cleaner (except rubber o-ring... i have learned from previous experiences already) and sprayed through the...
