badass.....I'm working in Plano at the moment, but I'm in uptown Ft. Worth about twice a week. Usually on the weekend. Last time I was in Ft Worth, I saw 5 or so cafe racers driving around together which is why I asked

Howdy again. Haven't had much time to work on the bike till now, but I'm ALMOST done with wiring in everything. I have a few questions, however, that hopefully you guys can help me out with: I'm only planning on running a headlight, speedo and taillight. What would you guys recommend me do...

    Wiring in replacement Speedo

Quick question: I'm wiring in a small 2.5" speedo and it (like most speedos) has a power and a ground. But the stock speedo has three wires . My wiring diagram shows a ground, a white/green and a blue wire. So which one is the power and what does the other one do?

Also, I've got a female connector dangling. My best guess was that it was a condenser, since I've been having starting problems. Any other ideas what it could be? I'll post a picture after work (yes I'm doing this at work)

so I was going through the wiring on my motorcycle step by step with a wiring diagram in hand I got off this site... I found a missing condenser in addition to the fried flasher relay. Anybody know what the potential ramifications are of missing this? It looks like it's been missing for a while

Well I finally got all of that old busted up stuff off the front end. The headlight and gauges we pretty much spent. Any suggestions on a new speedo and headlight that will work for the bracket I have?

Also, I'm going to replace the headlight/gauges. What all is in the headlight case? I'm looking at a wiring diagram, but I don't want to just start pulling stuff off if I don't know what all it does.... There seems to be way more wires going into the headlight than one would expect..

I've been having problems with it starting consistently. The solenoid clicks rapidly sometimes when i hit the start button (and it's not a low battery thing). Could that be connected?

Oh yeah...duh...you're right. That makes sense. The flashers are the only electrical that doesn't work.

I like the idea of the vents, but I'm not skilled enough to drill holes that will 1) not compromise the structural integrity of the plate and 2) allow for drainage since water will most likely get in there. I'm going to make the front end simple. I'm just going to have a headlight and a speedo...

Thanks Drewpy, I sawed that sucker off and ordered a new one. I painted the engine covers black...I think it looks a lot better. The idea is to have everything black except for mufflers, handlebars, speedo, wheels and gas cap. Photo updates:

This is my first project (was a huge headache). As for the xs400, this is how she looked when I got her home. I paid $200 for it, so it seemed like a worth while gamble.. I began taking stuff apart to clean and paint. I popped the crankcase off and it looked like a couple squirrels...
