    OK ill give in and admit......kick started my 80 xs400 and it started fine, took off down the road and it was running like crap, pulled over gave it some gas, it was trying......then i heard a pop pop pop, looked down and i figured out when i kicked started it my boot caught the spark plug wire...

    i saw those flat washers, but shipping is around 7$ just for that.......and the o ring they have doesnt work for my petcock. i contacted there customer service and they said it wont work

    how about the little washers or o rings for the screws going through the mounting plate also, would gray RTV work?

    1980 xs400 so i rebuilt my petcock, the kit i bought didnt come with a large O ring for the mounting plate to the tank, so i put it back on and now it leaks fuel......ive done a lot of searching and i cant find this part except for ordering one through a dealer in town for $20. does anyone...

    thanks for the replys, i watched a couple videos, im just waiting on the parts throught the mail then im gonna tackle it.......i should be able to do it no problem, i am a automotive mechanic by trade

    alright ive kinda figured out the petcock is bad, im gonna order a rebuild kit and try to fix it, but i still have the question of is it doing any damage like flooding, should i drain the tank and park it till i fix it?

    so im fairly new to bikes i did a search but couldnt find my answer, if a thread on this is out there point me in that direction i have a 1980 xs400 special 2 my petcock has RES On and prime when i take the fuel line off gas pours out in all positions, so the petcock im assuming is bad...

    bike runs pretty good considering im new to bikes but have quite a bit of automotive knowledge dang that sucks, and i cant find the video again it included a hair dryer and can of air super glue and the wooden handle of a hammer and using a blood pressure cuff jammed in the tank

    ive seen some builder threads but id still like to see a write up.....i am taking off the back rest, and how would you get the dent out of the tank, it boggles my mind cause i cant get inside the tank to hammer it out
