Silly question. Did you charge the battery when you bought it? Mine required several hours on my trickle charger before it was ready to use.

Seems to me the XS1100 is much more ready to become a cafe racer than the XJ. The later bikes just look more cruiser-ish. I suspect that many of the pictures you're seeing are earlier models with the flatter lines and more forward seating position. My 81 XS400S took on the cafe look very quickly...

When I read this forum this morning, I totally missed the part about the adjuster being under the black rubber cap on the sprocket cover. I pulled the whole cover assembly off before I figured out what I really had to do. Once I extracted my head from my a$$ this was one of the easiest jobs...

Just took my '81 out of the barn after 17 years. Everything's going good- cleaned the carbs, changed the oil, new battery, until today I'm about a half-hour into a ride and the rear brake pedal goes way past its usual limit. It was moving about an inch, maybe inch and a half if I really pressed...
