Got my motor opened up last night, all the way down to the bottom case. I replaced the cam chain and started reassembly... Then snapped an underside case bolt >_< gotta hit the hardware store and get some hardware, then as soon as my gaskets are in I oughta be right as rain!

So I replaced the points ignition with the electronic ignition plate from mikes. It was an easy enough install, (would've been easier had the PO known how to keep wiring clean). But after that my timing was slightly off and my bike had no power... My timing chain has some obvious wear so I...

Mikes xs sells carb holder spacers meant to improve low end throttle response and torque, but they are for a 650. Does anyone know if these would be beneficial or applicable to the xs 400? If so I'd love to grab em and see how they do.

I finally got the carb tuned up perfectly!!! With a lot of toying around with the grinder I got the last few seized bolts off the diaphram on top and replaced everything to Allen head. My goal was to raise the needle another position, but it appears I was already at the highest possible...

Changed the oil, pulled the plugs and found out I was running too lean, my plugs were pretty white and burnt up. I got some hotter running plugs in now. Pulled the carb and found 3 screws were seized on the top... Which is bewildering because I have opened this carb up fully at least 14...
