79 Xs400 advice

Hi! New guy here need some advice please

Im looking at picking up a 79 xs400 soon and the current owner can't tell me anything about the bike. She inherited from family. Clean bike all around hasn't been touched in 3yrs. Started up fine both kick and electric (after battery was charged of course) Plan on taking to mechanic to get a professional to find any major problems.

I can do regular maintenance, carb cleaning, oil, plug etc.. but is there anything else i should be looking into?

First, welcome to the Forum.

I would recommend an in-line fuel filter after draining all the 3 yr. old gas (if you haven't already).
This thread was recently compiled and pretty much covers everything that the Forum members recommend when you first get your xs400.

I love the colour, royal Audi blue. Was thinking on pin striping it with a metallic good, but I'm unsure now. The colour really brings out the beauty in the bike and gives it a bit of a retro look

Wait, we haven't seen Mike's bike yet. We don't know what colour it is - lol

As to our Hijacker's (Grayson's) bike, it was a nice colour and now it's blue
