Thought it might be interesting to see how many of you guys are into freediving:thumbsup: Heres a piccy of my catch yesterday out at a place called flinders on the mornington penisula, here in victoria. Its all wild open ocean so the fish can get quite large, this is a 1 metre snook and it is a very very tasty fish to eat. Between this and my bag limit of abolone I walked away with hundreds of dollars worth of top quality seafood. Not a bad effort for a 30min dive:)

lol, thats no good. Its actually pretty cold here too, compared with the rest of oz. Victoria has a reputation here for cold crappy weather thats why I have to use a 5mm wetsuit with a hood.

I lived in Melbourne for a few years and used to go to the Mornington Peninsula quite a bit - wild cold seas directly from the Antarctic - went for a swim there one winter and damn I suffered from shrinkage. Luckily the great red wine from the region warmed me right up.
Until my son was born I used to scuba every 2-3 weeks but I've only had a few dives since then. Lots of fun critters to play with around Sydney beaches.

My wife and I used to dive Fishrock Cave each year and it is an awesome dive spot - 110m ocean cave and heaps of big friendly grey nurse sharks - here is a pic. There are crayfish there too that are about 6kg+ but they are protected so they cost $10,000 each.

I usually wear a 5/7mm wettie with sharkskin hooded vest if water surface temp is under 21c.

My dive buddy took the pic of me playing with the giant cuttle fish in Sydney. I took the pic of the shark at Fishrock Cave. On that dive, most of the sharks were just cruising around but that particular one seemed quite curious so i kept my eye on him.

For info on shark skins check this out. www.sharkskin.com.au - warm with minimal buoyancy.

Fishrock cave consistently has a lot of sharks and is one of my favourite dive spots. This is the view when you exit the cave. And a pic that my wife took of me.
