Butterfly screw in the cylinders?!

My first time ever working on motorcycles and it’s been so much fun. When I bought my 79 xs barn find, I thought it would just be a carb clean and new gas type of situation. However, I found that a screw from the butterfly valve on the left carb found its way into the intake and imbedded itself in the head. Has anyone dealt with this? Without loc tight I could see this being a common problem as the only way the screw can unthread is into the intake. Anyways, got a new head and rebuilt the top end! An unexpected find though!

It this forum has been so helpful, thank you everyone. Yall helped me get it started for the first time in an unknown amount of time. Probably a long time!

Good find but ouch. The other method I've seen for those is to peen the threads that stick through the throttle shaft so that even if it loosened, it can't back out if the threads are boogered.
