Hi all!

I have been reading this forum since Feb. this year when I bought my bike. I just registered today.

The first and only other bike I have ever owned was a 1980 Yamaha 400. I bought it in 2004 for $400 out of someones back yard. Before that I rode a Honda 50 for 1/2 an hour when I was 10 or something lol.
I helped get the 400 running, and a month or 2 later I decided I was going to ride it from Greeley, Colorado to Sequim, Wa. Close to 1400 miles. I was 20 at the time and fed up with Colorado. Mid March I think is when I, in all my wisdom, decided was time to do it. I think I finally made it a week later alive and in 1 piece:eek::eek:. I think I made the trip with less than $150 and a 1 gal gas can strapped to the front of the bike(the only partially smart thing about the whole trip) I eventually left the bike somewhere:banghead: and went on with my life.
The end of last year I got to thinking how much I liked riding and started looking on Craig's List. I just happened to find a 1980 Yamaha XS400G for $900. When I called the guy it turned out to be my neighbor directly across the street from me! Guess it was meant to be!
Anyway, it is in decent shape for 35. It runs pretty good and I have gone for a few short rides since I bought it in Jan. I need to put some work into it though. First up is the cracked rubber I see around the carbs. That is probably part of the few issues I am having with it.
Anyway, looks like alot of knowledge on here so thanks all in advance for your help and advise!
