Hey all,
I just picked up a 1982 xs400 that was being transformed into a bobber and after looking @ other XS's I am puzzeld a biy due to my bike has a mono shock which I haven't seen on the other ones here. Can anyone give me a heads up on figuring out which model I might have...here are some pix of what I've got so far,,

Post up the vin for an accurate model breakdown or do a search; mono-shocks do come on xs400s for certain later models with DOHC from what I have seen.

It looks like you have a good starting point; welcome aboard.
 
Hey Guys,
I've got it running! The plugs were not only the wrong type but were also incorrect on the gap. Got some new plugs,cleaned the carbs,put some different bars on and a bar end mirror. Just need to put the lights on and fix the front tire and I am good to go!
