Newbie with ignition switch questions

Hey hey hey hello ... I just got a xs400 and it seems to have some problems. .came with a key .... I put a battery in and hooked it up .... Turned switch to on and I get nothing .... No lights no nadda ... The fuses are all ok and I figure I should start with the switch .... I only get power to one fuse so I figure I should start there .... How do I remove the ignition switch ?
The bike is a Resurrection and it would be nice to save it from the scrap heap.

So any and all help is appreciated

Go through all connections following the wiring diagram, clean 'em, use dielectric grease, check grounds.
