Seat Shape

I've looked through some of the threads on seats, and didn't see an answer to this...forgive me if it's out there already.
I have a 79 400F with the side hinges that came to me with no seat. I've found a side hinge seat on fleabay but it will need to be re-covered. I gather that only a couple of years used the side hinge (78-79?), but is the seat shape otherwise the same over other years? I ask because I'm looking at some of the vinyl cover kits out there and wondering about fit.

The 78-E and the 79-F and 2-F used the same seat cover. All other sohc xs400 models are different.

Thanks for the info, xschris. I guess that's unfortunate in terms of availability, but I'll see what I can find. I'm receptive to any suggestions!

Good stock parts are hard to find. Just have to keep your eyes out. I picked up a super nice extra seat for my 79 about five years ago. Just as a spare as the one on it now is still very nice. That one was also an ebay find as the one that came with the bike 21 years ago was a bad recover. I saw a nice one about 6 months ago that was cheap but I already had an extra.

Man, you found that fast! I had looked around on ebay and didn't see that one. Anyway, more expensive than I wanted it to be, but I went for it. Thanks!
