I had both connectors running to the stator before disconnected to limp her home and she ran fine, now i removed the stator (no wiring in there at all) and now i've no spark. Is the copper wire used as a ground or something?

one set of wores goes to the stator and the other to the field coil. the field coil has an earth lead in there, but you should have engine earth from the rear of the engine anyway!
maybe you might have to bypass the regulator for a switched supply!
