I was driving my 81' around this evening when suddenly I started getting this loud 'whirring' noise. I got home and noticed the noise was coming from the tachometer. There was also a strong vibration coming from the tachometer when I put my hand on it.

This all started suddenly, I checked the cable to the tachometer and it's still seated nice and tight.

I remember when I bought it the guy though I should disconnect the both gauges and spray graphite inside of it, but until now, I have not experienced any issues with it.

What do you think I should do?

take it apart, make sure everything is running smooth and properly tightened, and put it back. A little lubrication is always good, and as long as you don't destroy anything in the process it can never hurt to check. The problem is in there somewhere, eh?
