I got a gas tank that fits my 83 400 Maxim, same red color, from a coworker. Problem is, I don't have a key for the tank cap lock. Can anyone suggest a cheap way to open or remove it?

Where's the bike it came from? The key code would be stamped on the ignition cylinder.
Could probably get a lock smith to pick it and make a new key once it's open.

Thanks for that tip. I just received the ignition lock yesterday and will soon visit the local locksmith.

I just had a key mad by a local locksmith, all I had to do was tell him it's a Yamaha, and I gave hime a 4 digit number located outside the lock.
Kind of scary that it was that easy. It cost about 15 USD.
Yeah, all it would take is a quick glance under the ignition, ten minutes to the closest locksmith, and anyone could drive off with the bike....
