I threw a connecting rod bearing a few weeks ago and yesterday I got around to putting the engine back together after replaceing it. Like an idiot, I didn't mark the timing chain or anything for when it came time to put it all back together. So I pretty much sat there spinning the crankshaft with my wrench, watching the cam spin for about a half hour until I decided that I had put the timing chain back on the cam in the right spot.
After putting enough parts back on the bike to give 'er a test fire and see if I was even close...sure enough she fired right up. No exhaust on, but it sat at idle for a few seconds until I was satisfied and shut it off. I'm pretty much going to button everything up and see how it goes.
So then, what are the chances that I basically slapped the timing chain on in the right spot?
