Last time I worked on my forks, I clamped them into the world's worst bicycle repair stand, and used a palm driver and a deepwell socket to apply pressure and remove the keeper. I had also made spacers, so it was under extra preload. I literally about lost an eye trying to get them reassembled. This time around, I decided to "work smarter". Thanks to Drewpy for the oil level info. They now how much less weight transfer. If I could only solve my carb issue...

I used a valve spring compressor and after circlip is out can slowly "unscrew" the compressor and nothing goes flying :) I loosened the forks to bring them higher and retightened. Lower end of spring compressor under the triple clamp; and it helps to loosen the handlebars and let them lower down to get clearance to remove the cap. Simple, easy, effective and safe
