Hello there, welcome to the forum, for your question it is possible to run without filters but HIGHLY not recommended. Have you adjusted the adjustment screws on your carbs?

This is my 1978 xs 400 in the process of modding into a Cafe/Vintage racer. This is what I have so far until I can scrounge up some money for a new seat, rear sets, and a over bore kit. Got to love the blacked out look.:bike:
