used to run fine, now only idles with choke

I didn't change anything between when it ran fine and when it didn't run fine. So, besides dirty carbs I'm wondering if there's anything else I should consider.

used to run fine, now only idles with choke

Yeah, they are synced. Pods are the red oval ones from mikesxs and the exhaust is stock I think, each pipe goes straight back, no joining or anything.

used to run fine, now only idles with choke

My 78 xs400e was running fine for a while, I took it on a 50 mile ride. The only issue it had was a hanging high idle once it warmed up - around 3000k. I let it sit for a couple of weeks and when I went to ride it again I was getting inconsistent and very little power, so that I felt unsafe to...

Wanted - single intact bs34 carb body (prefer 78 sohc)

I am looking for a single intact bs34 carb body, ideally off a 78 or similar SOHC. Right or left side doesn't matter. Hardware, jets etc would be a bonus but not necessary. I blew out the pilot air screw hole on one of my carbs.

Wanted - Right side late model carb body

Hey BamaBill, I'm looking to buy a single intact carb body (I blew out the pilot air screw hole on one of mine). Do you still have that carb and would you be willing to ship to Washington? Do you have any pictures of the inside or the air intake side of the carb? I have a 78 sohc, hoping that...

    Temperature difference between cylinders

I am pretty new to mechanics so I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the Kawasaki kz400 and kz440 are roughly equivalent to the xs400 - same displacement, SOHC, 4 stroke 2 cylinder etc. a number of people have successfully converted their kz400s to single carb, although it seems to...

    Temperature difference between cylinders

I have a 1978 xs400 e running a single carb with pod filter. I have adjusted my valves, put in new points and gapped them, and adjusted the timing. I've been through the carbs several times cleaning all the passages. I'm currently running 142.5 main and 47.5 pilot. My pilot screw is 3 turns out...

Does my carb need a pilot screw o ring?

I have a 78 xs400e with the stock carbs. I got it from the PO and there are no o rings or washers down inside the pilot screw housing. Right now with the pilot screw out 3 turns (and actually all the way to 6) the bike will idle with half choke but dies with the choke all the way in. Mikesxs...

Jetting for a single carb conversion

I have a 78 xs400e that I just converted to a single carb manifold. Full disclosure: the engine was racing at idle with my factory setup so I pulled the carbs off to clean them. I broke the tip of the pilot screw off in one, couldn't get the tip out and decided the conversion might be cheaper...

    No fuel flow to carb

I have a 78 xs400e that i converted to one carb. I just cleaned the carb and put if back on. Carb is stock bs34. When I turn my petcock to prime there is no fuel flow down the hose into the carb. Petcock works fine and drains when disconnected from the carb. Is there an airlock in my carb...
