clutch feels like its not engaging in 5th gear

My xs400 2-e will drive fine on every gear except for 5th gear. As soon as i try to shift into 5th gear, it feels like im reving in neutral. So I then shift up to 6th gear and theres a slight tick noise that happens and then im driving fine in 6th gear.

This happens every single time I shift into 5th gear - motor spins freely without acceleration, and then shift up into 6th, something ticks (loud enough to hear over the running engine) and then driving fine in 6th.

It has to be something in the clutch but im not experienced with clutch mechanisms. Maybe there is no 5th gear installed??

It might be your shift drum. Put it in 5th with the engine off and see if it free wheels or not. It also might have some broken teeth on that gear

could be bent shifter fork or the engagment dogs on the gear broken, teardown and inspection, repair or replacement is in your future
