Hey guys, I'm building a scrambler out of an XS400. Almost done but the rear tire (5.10 x 18) was rubbing the inside of the swing arm. Initially it looked like just some of the weld was all that needed to be removed. No luck. So I kept shaving away till I got the clearance I was looking for. I know I've seen tons of modified swing arms in the past on plenty other bikes but never done anything like this myself. I was initially thinking just grind away what I need to remove for clearance, patch the hole with some thicker steel, give it a good solid weld, and I should be good. I also had the idea of welding in this 4 or 5 inch chunk of 7/8 in handle bar inside to help strengthen the cut section. My concern is I want this thing to hold obviously, but can it be too stiff? I know I'd rather over-brace it than under brace it but still. Any help would be great. Thanks!
