Hi everyone, can anyone recommend a good method of cleaning a fuel tank out? it still smells strongly of the old petrol but it is blackened up and sludgy inside.
I bought some tank cleaner at the local bike shop. Something with some kind of acid I think it might have been phosphoric acid. I taped up the holes with duct tape, about 5 layers, and put the stuff in. Swished it around a few times in the next 5-7 hours. Then rinse thoroughly with water and let dry until 100% bone dry. Then you should probably use some sealant, but I just put new fuel in and hoped for the best
still, already just cleaning the tank out by rinsing it with some fresh fuel helps loads. You wouldn't believe what came out of mine...
