Fuse Box Help... ASAP!!

Hey guys...

I looked at all the available diagrams but I am stuck!!

I have an 81 XS400 Special II - 4R5 Model...

Previous owner made a very poor attempt at rewiring...

The were 4 inline fuses barely hanging on... I tried to slowly pull the wad of wires apart to try to figure out what he did... half of them popped right out of the wire nuts.. so here i sit... 8 wires... and no idea what to do with them... the colors do not match up exactly with the diagrams... so here is what i have... someone HELP!! lol

2 - red wires with yellow stripes
2 - red wires with whites stripes
2 - thicker solid red wires
2 - solid brown wires

Is it as easy as a fuse on each color??

I do not wanna fry the bike...

Can anyone point me in the right direction??

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's

Thicker Read - Main
Red/White - Indicators
Red/Yellow - Starter
Brown - headlights

Try a 20A on all the connections by color matching to see what goes where.

Your wires look like these?

Like SilverTalon said, like color to like color, but I suggest using 20A main, rest 10A. Also look at Jayels colored wiring diagram.

Yeah, I just meant to use the 20A for testing, if he's worried about blowing the wrong one. It should be like you said, 20A main, 10A rest.

Thanx all!! Like color to Like color seems to have done the trick...

Cannot test everything since I do not have turn signals or a tail-light as of yet...

brown switched feed

Red from battery/reg rec

Here's hoping no one here is using wire nuts in their re-wiring.

+1 on the fuse box. That's a nice setup. The PO on mine just wired in single fuses for each wire.
