How high can you go?

Hi everyone.
Does anyone know how high I can go with rear shocks on my xs400se?
I'm looking at 400mm long shocks but I'm worried that the extra height may cause the chain to rub on the swingarm. For members in the US my bike is the british version of the heritage and is a US custom.
I suppose I could compromise with 365mm if the longer shocks will be a problem!
Any advice appreciated!

365mm might just be about the limit with stock mounting points. I ran 400mm shocks but with a stretched swinger and modded frame, I'm back to 365's now

Does the extra 40mm when the 365mm shocks are fitted make a noticeable difference in the back end height?
