Loud upper-body tapping (even after valve adjustment)??

I plan to check valve clearances again later this week, but assuming they're all in order, what should be the next places I troubleshoot? I'll try to upload a video tomorrow night of what it sounds like. For now I'll describe -

It's uncanny loud... Almost as loud as the engine at idle.
It sounds like it's coming from the overhead cam area, not so much like a deeper knock from within.
Tapping sound has no metallic ring to it - it's a really quick, sharp rap.

i got the same thing im guessing it is a little valve tap from the cam to the valves. did u check that your cam chain is tight

allso a little more info on the bike would be nice another thing i found that differant types of oil help like the yamaha oil seems to make my engine run a little quieter then just ragular bike oil from parts store
