What's up friends? I've finally decided to man up and fill my battery with acid! No burns! No major spills! No problems! In hindsight, I'm happy that those people on that one thread told me to man up and just go for it. Thanks, you all!
Now, we're making progress. The lights now come on but only the blinkers and the three lights on the gauge with the speedometer; not the headlight and the tail light.
The spark plug is still stuck in the engine.. :(:banghead: But my uncle said he would give me some tools that could possibly get it out.:thumbsup:
New ignition and two keys made for it. Umm what else? Engaged part of the front brake. I still need to establish a connection from the petcock to the gas tank with one vacuum being able to snap onto carburetor but the other one is snapped so I'll figure out a way I can get a middle piece to join those two together with.
Overall, I've made some great progress. My goal is to have the bike running by Thanksgiving so I need to get on a roll.
Also, I need to clean the carbs and change the oil. If you guys have any advice on those to, let me know.
Thanks in advance, mates! :laugh::D:):bike:

Glad the hear the battery went well.

Lots of info all over the forum on carbs.
Check out everything in this post, but #4 is on carbs in particular: http://www.xs400.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10595
Then this thread: http://www.xs400.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10715
Also this pdf. You'll have to pick out the bits that apply to your carbs though: http://www.amckayltd.com/carbguide.pdf

As for the lights. Do you have a multimeter/tester?
Check the headlight fuse. Continuity test the fuse and the fuse holders. The fuse could be bad or the holders too corroded to conduct. Could also be the connections in the wiring harness. If the fuse and fuse holder are good, find the wiring diagram for the bike and trace all the connections for the lights in question. Check that the connectors are seated well and have continuity.

The headlight is on a relay that will not switch it on until the engine turns over and starts to produce power.

Haha, that'd do it too. Don't have one on my 360. Seems easy enough to switch the light manually.
