I cleaned the engine and used the wire wheel on it and heres what I came out with. I could only get so deep in the fins so its not near perfect yet.
Here is the cleaned egine with the worklight on it. The frame (or most of it) has been prepped for new paint.
it shines nice but I wish there was something gentler to use on this, I had to sand down a bit after. I had to press the wire wheel deep to get paint

sanded, whire wheel, and smoothing out a bit of the frame with the grinder I can see it is getting more ready for some new paint and clear coat.
giving this a good clean may take some time but will let me know how well the gaskets are doing.
still replacing the carb boots on this.
