Spent the day cleaning my frame, the last dood who had my bike greased the chain and well... there was about a pound of grease caked on the frame. its still dirty so ive decided to go get the thing sand blasted and be done with it. de tabbed the frame with a grinder and a hammer :). cut a little...

anyone know if the xs400 and the xs400j use the same bolts in the engine? as i need or should say want a new bolt kit.

OKAY! so my bike is totally appart, frame is bare. rear swingarm is off, forks are off. time to reseal those puppies and paint the bottoms! they are heavyer than i thought. how can i check if i need to rebore my cylinders? im thinking of a complete engine rebuild because my seals are leaking a tad.

Does the frame have to be completely bare?

Just got some flap wheels and wire brushes and a hell lot of spray paint, is it okay to use non heat resistant spraypaint on the frame? and how does spray paint hold up to chips and stuff? Posting a picture of my progress soon. also got some solvent to clean the motor and parts. any tips on...

Hello y'all, time to start anew as I did not introduce myself on my first thread. My name is Calvin, 21 years old, and I got a yamaha xs400j maxim. cost me a lot more than some of these project bikes but a lot less than what bikes usually go for up here. about 1600 into it now, and at 90k kms...

So im thinking of overboring my engine and sleeving, how much would this cost and how much horse power would i get out of it?? also i was on bikes.com and it says my xs400j is a 6 speed but i only count 5? confused!

it was the day light running wire, but now i must have a short somewhere because my right turnsignal wont even turn on sometimes, only when im accelerating hard or sitting at a light sometimes. i did replace my headlight with a t4 bulb one :(. what do you think could cause this?
