Thanks for the advice. Now onto seat issues, the seat that came with the bike is from an 81, but has no mounting hardware on the bottom, nor does the bike have any on it. What would be the best way to attach the seat now?

Well my brain is fried from a rough day at work, but I made it out and got it up on the centerstand. Rear wheel spins with no wobble, minor clunking as the bent part of the gear hits on something, and the brake pads are way too tight (constant grind as the wheel spins). Here is some better...

Thanks, will try to do that tonight. But looking at that weld on the left side swingarm and the chain adjuster being so bent, I think I may be better off replacing at least those 2 anyhow. Found a couple of used arms for 30 or so plus shipping.

Wow, for starters you all are awesome. As I'm sure you can tell this is my first bike and first project bike all wrapped into one, so its a steep learning curve for me. I wondered if I'd get laughed off the forum for having so little knowledge but everyone has been great. So thanks for that...

Will take some pictures at a better angle. Anything you guys would like to see? Trying to assess if the bike is worth fixing or if I'm better off parting it out. Would like to fix it, but don't want to spend more than 1000 or so.

Its a bad angle, but if you look below the chain guard the gear and housing are bent as well. Not sure what caused it, but its not pretty looking haha.

Its the warping behind the spring that worries me. Assuming I have to replace the whole assembly, anyone have any ideas on what the wallet hit would be? Also what is the metal peg thats welded into place there? Again I appreciate all the help. Chris

Newbie question. What do you mean by 1978-E?

Here is what makes me say its a 78. Hopefully the picture is clear is enough. And I appreciate the warm welcome and help so far. I really hope to have something to ride come spring. I know it will be a lot of work, but I don't think its an unrealistic goal.
