mine runs from the battery pole via quite a heavy duty cable to a bolt on the crankcase on the rear of the engine - so it earths via the engine cases which themselves are earthed to the frame via the engine mounting bolts

not sure if this helps but i had similar kickstart issues :
trying to sort out why the kick starter is now solid i removed the kick start mechanism.done lots of two stoke yams in the past so wasn't to worried but on the 2 strokes the crankcase is sealed from the external clutch, kick start...
thanks everyone for upbeat comments - just need some decent weather to give the bike a proper ride- first restoration and glad i did it but will kick back for a while before maybe starting another - old bikes dont co-operate do they most of the time - plan to keep it - didnt do it to make...
thanks Chris - i can see the attraction of the bobber trend, some of them look really good - especially if the state of the donor bike is not worth returning to factory spec but i think if you have a decent base then a good factory restoration is the way to go - just my opinion and i am sure...
just less than a year and the xs is finished - sort off - still needs an mot - for our colonial friends that`s a road worthiness certificate.
will post before and after pictures.
just an update - went to mot the fireblade, left the xs on its side stand - not the usual centre stand - came back and...
good find - would have expected it to be the clutch push rod seal - would not have been surprised if it was the sprocket seal - but never heard of neutral switch seal going - well spotted
as xs chris said - use an old screwdriver and hammer to knock the washer flat - not a good screwdriver - you will ruin the end - its probably easier if you just get the bent part away from the nut and then use a large set of grips to flatten the washer.
once the washer is flat you remove the nut...

all you experienced xs owners probably know all this but both nearly caught me out and would have caused a whole world of pain - in fact if it wasn't for the rich calming tones of David Coverdale (Whitesnake) playing in the background calming the garage environment i may have taken a large...
welcome Sean
from England i see - am in the process of restoring a 400 at the moment
spares /parts not too common in uk - did not sell many 400 but many 250 parts are the same - lots of bits in America and Germany - more popular bike in those markets - we all bought rd400 didnt we- but can be...
just to add - if the slide is not moving when the engine is being revved , assuming the slides are normally free to move then you have a diaphragm problem - either a hole or not seating correctly
hi
i think you are describing two different things
the float and float bowl are situated at the bottom of the carb - the float moves up and down depending on the fuel level in the float bowl.
the throttle slide is upstream of the throttle butterfly and can be moved manually up and down but not...
