    "Ignition Module"

Hi all, Setting up my new harness for the bike and during tear down found a box under the battery labeled "ignition module". Been looking at factory and custom wiring diagrams and have never seen this in them (minus one diagrams for an XJ on here). Is it known as something different on...

    Minimum Required Electric

Been on the hunt for one of these smaller batteries. Anyone have a recommendation on what works best? Brand or where to even find them? Remember seeing a post awhile ago with one next to a Spirits cigarette box but can't seem to find that thread again.

    USA/Canada border crossing

Yeah I'm gonna go to the dmv today and leave tomorrow. After I posted it I felt silly. Worried about a couple hundred bucks in hotel reservations knowing I'd be risking my bike and fees and other terrible things that go along with terrible decisions... Not worth it just pissed about my stuff...

    USA/Canada border crossing

Hi all! Was trying to get some experience on the matter. I live in Idaho and am planning on riding up to Canada tomorrow for a week before returning home. I have a passport and all that normal border crossing stuffs... problem is my wallet got stolen today with my driver's license (let alone...

Starter button problem after new bars

Sounds right that the tape is the issue. Just make sure there is metal to metal contact to complete the circuit for the controls

Starter button problem after new bars

Thanks XSChris! That was the issue. Filed the paint down under the left controls and fired right up! Thanks for all the help!!

Starter button problem after new bars

The starter button only has one wire to it so where would it ground if not the bars? And I checked with the old bars by attaching the control unit to them and touched the other end to the forks and it started up just fine. And the bolts are brand new.

Starter button problem after new bars

Swapped out the bars from the stock to the no drag black painted bars. Knew the starter button was grounded thru the bars and the paint would inhibit electrical flow so I filed the paint under the controls to bare metal. The button works when the whole unit is exactly level on the bars, but when...

    Carb adjustment breakdown

Sorry, my needles are not shimmed. But I'll give it another go today and play with gearing. With no tach and going off sound may just be my issue. Thanks for all the info and I'll let you know how it goes!! And I do resync after every adjustment

    Carb adjustment breakdown

My slide needle doesn't have notches but is unshimmed. Brass floats and I forget where they're at (27mm maybe?) found the hight recommended here last season. 137.5 mains were 2 sizes up from when I bought the bike with stock filters. And as per the gear it's in 6th and the motor always sounds...

    Carb adjustment breakdown

1980 xs400sg, pod filters, stock exhaust, 137.5 mains and 45 pilots, 2.5 turns out, 2700 feet above sea level. Issue I have is at around 55mph I get a bog down in the throttle and no torque for long uphills (no tach so no idea of rpms). Just got new mixture screws which I believe is the problem...

    Carb adjustment breakdown

So I've been fiddling with the carbs trying to get a nice fluid tune but with all the adjustments I'm starting to mess things up more then fix. So pretty much just wanted to clarify my understanding: Mixture screws: clockwise turns them into the carbs reducing air in the mix...

    Stiff clutch

So I finally found time to try to fix the clutch. I continued to try to find that sweet spot where the wurm screw wasn't too far out but couldn't find it. Everywhere that sat that close didn't leave the stem in an area good for the return spring and cable. I ended up backing the screw and lock...
