Different motorcycle - exact same problem(s). Fuel leaking past godawful original petcock to carbs. Floats not holding the needle closed. Fuel works its way down hill into intake, cylinders, etc. Best case stumbles coughs then eventually runs. Worst case won't even start you could smell...

Thanks for the info. There are bolt holes and I thought I had just misplaced the grab rail one of the times I disassembled... I am definitely interested in the trim piece, will pass on the carb boots. Not because of price, but I've got some that work and I've bought used ones in the past that...

I hope this solves your problem. I don't know how the Maxim is laid out, but "yanking the carbs" on the Seca is a pain. The best technique I've come up with is removing the top motor mounts and letting the engine pivot forward. Its a struggle to get the carbs in and out (if you use the boots)...

I have experienced the same sort of problem on 1982 XS400RJ Seca (same engine?). Root cause was bad floats in carburetor + still open petcock. Symptoms: run fine for a while then while riding loss of power, more throttle bogs the engine, eventually stops. Try to restart... nothing, cranks...
