DOHC XS400 Seca: Engine not turning over!

Thanks for the quick replies! :D Maxim you must be right! It is very likely that the old gasket is there. I feel so dumb :banghead:. Oh well you live, listen and learn. I got some gaskets from the old engine, going to flip em over and put em in tomorrow. Cheers! :bike:

DOHC XS400 Seca: Engine not turning over!

Update for you guys! What happened was the plastic chain guide broke that tightens the cam chain. It then got caught and would not allow the engine to turn over. I was unlucky in getting it out and it got into the bottom end. So now i have to split the cases and fish it out. I haven't completely...

DOHC XS400 Seca: Engine not turning over!

I'll try that tomorrow thanks!! Quick question can a messed up starter assembly prevent bump starting of the motorcycle, or does the engine spin independent of the starter assembly.

DOHC XS400 Seca: Engine not turning over!

This weather makes it hard to wear proper riding gear that's for sure. No kick start. But I tried turning the crankshaft bolt under the generator cover. It only turns half a turn in either direction in 6th gear, with clutch out and clutch in.

DOHC XS400 Seca: Engine not turning over!

Hello, hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather. I parked my bike at work ysterday for only 3 hours, and when I came back it started nicely for only two seconds. Then it shut off. Tried again, the starter motor only seems to turn half a turn when press and hold the start button. Checked...

Left/ Right Main jet - different size?

So if I want to go one size up on the main jets I should do 130/ 120. Two sizes will be 132.5/ 122.5. Three sizes is 135/125 right? The difference of 10 should stay constant when tuning with stock airbox right? I must also add I have a 2 into 1 mac exhaust. Thanks for the informative reply...

Left/ Right Main jet - different size?

Hey everyone, I'll be working on my BS34 carb on the 82' DOHC Seca. I'll be taking my carbs off to install bigger main jets over the weekend. My manual says that the left hand main jet should be a 127.5 and the right hand is a 117.5. I do not actually know which jets are present currently...

    Cold weather riders

When I was looking at wind chill charts, it showed the drop in "feels like temperature" levels off at any speed above 40mph. I have never been on the highway at low temperatures...so does wind chill has little effect when you get past a certain speed? http://webmaster10.com/ldr/windchill.html

My carb is missing some parts?!?!

Thanks umm, and chris. I found a pinhole in one of my diaphragms, so ill be ordering just the diaphragm from jbm industries and installing it on the slide. Much cheaper than buying both!! Do you guys know how to get the other choke plunger out? I would rather not take the carb bodies apart...

My carb is missing some parts?!?!

Hello everyone, Decided to tear my carburetor apart for the first time now that I have some time. My bike is a 82' DOHC XS400 Seca. I'm really happy about finding the "XS650 carb bible" in another thread, and learned that the carburetor is a late model bs34. Doing some reading I quickly...

    Close Call!

I assume most left-turning cars in the oncoming lane will turn out in front of me. I approach them at a slightly lower speed and accelerate once i pass them. Also I have been too busy for practice recently, but it's good to test out your emergency braking skills in an empty parking lot...

Preparing a motorcycle for the winter?

From Toronto here as well Chris :) Here's a easy to read checklist that I will follow this year. A couple of steps are pretty extreme like fogging oil, and waxing the bike. I like to put a bit of wax in my key holes and such but that's about it. Changing the oil again at the start of spring is...

    Winterizing

Put in fresh new oil and preferentially a new filter as well. The normal amount will do, and you will be ready when the season starts.

    Threw the chain today

Up to you. The difference will be very slim unless you like to rip it on the highway a lot. You will lose 500rpm at 120kph. In the city, the 17 will force you to shift a bit later, but will decrease cruising rpms maybe 250ish (marginal imo).

    chain oil

If you don't want to make enemies a good rule of thumb is to not argue about anything to do with politics, religion, or chain lubrication methods. :D But honestly I see no point in wondering, when you can just get the right lube for the job. I personally use maxima chain wax,- as it is very...
