Thanks Drewpy, but I gotta admit, after putting so much time into something and having it turn out just like you imagined you don't really mind answering any questions that come up. I consider questions to be as good as comments since I was looking to build something that you dont see everyday.

Thanks, I did today, the deadline for the build was today and I finished it yesterday. The NW's biggest vintage gathering on Vashon Is. was today and it was it's maiden ride...a few minor bugs, but all in all, a great ride.

I know it's been a while, but it is finally done (for now, alloy rims and fairing in the future)! I got it done just in time for the huge vintage ride up here in the NW and man was it a hit, I had comments and questions all day. Hope you enjoy!

Well, she runs again after about 9 months of not. I got all the black painted parts reinstalled (fork lowers, inner fender, pipes) today and just had to hear it, so I fabbed up a temp fuel can and second kick she fired right up. The custom short mufflers I made were just too loud (and I like...

They made a XS400D like yours and a XS400-2E that had drum brakes, spoke wheels and no electric starter like mine. Otherwise the two were identical in the same year, 1977. Hope this helps.

Almost forgot...a little paint scheme teaser, just finished the matching helmet. Truth is I've got a bit of a helmet problem, I have to have one for every ride plus maybe a backup or two...or three, that makes like a dozen:yikes:

As promissed, a few update pics...rear sets, rear brake, frame mods, some polished stuff and the SV650 taillight integrated into the tail. You can't see the light from the side so it keeps the traditional race profile, it also has integrated blinkers so it's even kinda legal.:D

there are supposed to be copper "band" type gaskets that are wrapped around the header pipes to take up the difference in diameters, I don't see any on yours. I had to actually cut them off mine when I went with aftermarket mufflers.

I know, I know... hopefully this week I'll take some and post them. It isn't very impressive right now because the forks are off for stiffening and paint.
