sorry it took so long for a follow up. low budget= time spread out, lol. well ended up getting a friend that owns a body shop to do it for me. did it for 200. there was a larger dent that i didnt feel like i could handel. he even did some welding which i cant do. love the out come

i have a 1982 maxim 400xs. when taking the carbs off i was told to push the two hoses on the back back to create enough room to slid them off. worked just fine. putting them on i slid those two hoses back slid the carbs on the two front hoses but i cant for the life of me get the two back hoses...
i clean.... clean... clean .... and freaking clean and i simple dont get the amazing look that some of yall have on yalls engine. what are yalls methods, hand, tools, polish etc.
im using mothers.... but im still trying to clean it from the guy before. should i be using some magical scrub...
this means ill be attempting it all.
will see how it comes out. found the paint gun out in the garage with all the old tools. cleaned up well and sprays good
couldnt get a bike in here but im looking for the side panel that goes over the battery cover, if you look at my pics youll see the one im missing. it would be a great help if someone knew where i could get one. i havent been able to get one anywhere. would hurt to have both.

thanks for all of the quick replies. jmd forest thats a sweet paint job. i think either way pro paint job or me i think im going to prep it to save alittle money if i decide to have a pro do it. look forward to more advice. thanks for all the help.
well im looking forward to getting my bike painted however im not sure if i sould make the attempt and do it myself or pay someone to do the job. i dont have a huge budget for the paint job... 300 is what im looking to spend. i simply want a simple paint job. i do have a dent in my tank that...
