What did you do with your XS today?

This weekend I swapped my shorter front brake line in to match my lower-than-stock handlebars and cut my clutch cable down to length and cast a new lead-solder end for it.

Installed new carburetor diaphragms. Got them from JBM Industries in Ohio, US. Their model #M-73 for most BS-34 type carbs. Very easy to install, less than an hour from entering workshop to running. A test ride will probably happen this weekend if the weather forecast is accurate. [emoji2]

Soaking the replacement center stand for the 360 in rust-remover.

Finally made progress in registering the SJ in my name. It's now registered to my mother-in-law in another province... not me yet but at least it's registered to someone now.
An inter-provincial transfer and it will finally, officially, be mine. :)

Moved to a house with an attached garage! but unfortunately separated my shoulder snowboarding and not be riding for 4-6 weeks...

Ordered a new seat cover 2 weeks ago off Ebay. Came in the mail last Wed. Looks to be pretty good quality for $45.00. Will be modifying the seat foam & installing this in the next couple days. Hope to post a few Before & After pics when it's all done.

Well I picked up new BPR7EIX NGK plugs and a pair of non-resistor wire caps.

Installed them in the bike I just yesterday did the thread insert on the right cylinder. Sure screwed in a lot nicer that with the half missing threads it had!

Took a few kicks to get it to start but after a bit it took off and sounded pretty good. AS it was in the mid seventies here in Central NY decided to take the outfit out for a short test ride. Seems to run good till it get to around 6,000 rpm. Then if under a load it starts breaking up. If you let off throttle seems to smooth back out. While going through the lower gears on a slight down grade it will run right up to 9,000 nice.

But compared to how it ran the other day with the resistor caps and the BP7EX plugs of unknown vintage ran much better. If weather holds for tomorrow might try a couple things.

First take the fuel filter out of the line to the carb to see if it might be starving for fuel under load, that's an easy quick thing to try.

Next would take a little longer, I could swap in a different pair of coils to see if one or the other is breaking down under load. I used this pair of coils that are in there now because they have easy to replaced wires, plastic nuts hold them in the coil and I installed new wires last fall.

Yesterday after work I started my bike after winter sleep. (Last year I did not bother winterizing it, just parked it. I think we had riding weather in December).

To my enjoyment simple press of the button revealed that battery is still good and cranking. After few attempts, with loud blast from exhaust bike came to life... Took it around the block, oiled the chain... and rode it to work today! What a treat!

Season is open!

I hope i have a similar story! only winterizing i did was seafoam mixed in the tank and drained the bowls.

Congrats on attached garage - no more winterizing :)

Sorry to hear about your shoulder, hope you recover fast. Where did you go to find snow? I summer-rized my board this Saturday after barely using-up my triple-play ticket at Mt. Creek ....

P.S.
I have two 50% off coupons for 1-day adult at Killington/Pico valid through May if anyone can still use them.

Soaked carbs in pine sol and stripped the paint off the front and rear fenders.
Will be shining them up and clear coating the bare metal.

Did a sprocket swap for more testing. Also ripped off my speedo/tach to send back to Speedhut to get modified. They are changing it from 8k rpm to 10k rpm, no charge! Great company.

Verified that after a rewire and most of two seasons mothballed my bike will still start...but not run, not just yet. Carbs need a good soak. My friend has an ultrasonic cleaner that I'm going to run them through, I think. Also fixed a shoddy splice on the front brake light switch.

Tore down and cleaned my petcock. Then polished the sealing surfaces with 2000 wet paper on a glass plate to get it perfectly flat and smooth. Hopefully that will fix the WOT fuel starvation issues I've been having.

Then I cleaned the front brake switch which had some dirt and corrosion in it causing intermittent operation.

drove up to Mt. Snow.. was mostly ice... bad season this year

Finally rigged up the starter solenoid and put in a starter button by the side cover. No more jumping the starter from the battery:bike:

Need an opinion. Going to look at another XS400 with 25000 mi doesn't run missing title. From pictures it looks intact with a recovered seat & what looks like a good clean tank. looks from the pics to be a complete bike for parts. I've my eye on the tank seat head headlight some electrics & carbs. Anyone else need parts?? It's priced at 400 but I'd work on that. Might even build something like a Ridley if the frame is strait with a v twin engine I've got. Any ideas?? Thoughts?? Needs?? I'll know more when I actually see the bike.

Took the 82 out today and put 120 miles on it:) Also started the 81 for the first time since going over the bike and putting the xs360 carbs on it. The bike ran awesome!! Just need to register and insure it and I am ready to go. :bike:

Went through my notes then adjusted the carb jetting and lowered float levels. Took it out for 150 km ride. Used the top 1/4 of the tank which is about 5 liters of fuel. Running slightly lean in the mid-range with 13C temps. Should be good until the fall, or until I make some silly modification and have to adjust for it. ;)
