82 Maxim No idle after oil drain plug incident

Wow that don't sound good at all....I wouldn't class that as an incident, but more of a catastrophic event. You may be lucky, but its highly unlikely that no internal damage occurred that doesn't need immediate attention. Incidentally, how did the sump plug come loose?

No idea. I guess it just slipped out. Maybe the guy that owned it before me put the wrong one on.

im with dave on this one ripper down and check er out my guess is piston/piston rings with a possability of some rod knock if that is all good maybe u burnt the cam guards out and so the noise your hearing is cam chain slap either way it only takes a few hours and a shop manual to pull it apart no point in buying that top end part unless you enjoy buying parts you may or may not need

Yeah tear it down. Or if you can find a complete running engine cheap enough swap it out,but if you rebuild yours you will gain a good understanding of that motor and know exactly where it is at.
