Greetings all. Recently re-acquired a reasonable facsimile of my first bike - in this case a '77 XS360. There are some excellent posts in these forums - better than other bike forums I have been a part of in the past - but still have not found anyone that has shared my problem....My bike (kick only) will normally start in warm weather on the second kick - with no choke and idle perfectly within about 30 seconds. Runs great through the entire throttle range, never dies, backfires, surges, etc. except....that once you shut it off it won't restart. Won't even attempt to fire until it has cooled back down to close to the ambient temp. My old XS400 was just the opposite - as one might expect - sometimes hard to start cold but once warmed up a little it was never an issue.

Unlike most of the others here I have far less mechanical knowledge/experience, just enough to know what most of the parts are and to occasionally take something apart that I cannot get back together, but I can usually at least come up with some kind of an idea. Here I am at a loss, other than to assume that it is running too rich all of the time, which would explain why the choke appears to be useless...but then I would expect to have issues after it has warmed up - and this is not the case. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem before?

Welcome tot he forum your kind of like me in the knowledge thing. Just sak alot of questions the guys on here are awesome! and many of them know there stuff especially Skillzman1 and New Kid on the Brat also BC and Travis

welcome to the forum. "thanks ace" i would suspect that it is flooding with fuel when you stop. have you ever been able to start it when warm? try holding the throttle wide open and IF it starts, and if it blubbers for a while that would confirm my suspicion.

Man, do I feel stupid. That was it. Thanks for the help. I think that maybe I have just grown too used to late model bikes where I can just walk up and push a button as opposed to having to "know" your bike to sometimes get it to do what you want. I recall that my original XS400 had something of an indirect security system built-in as the electric start would only work when the bike was warm and I was the only one that could start it when it was cold!

Thanks again.
