Thanks for the help musket. We jumped the two r/w wires on the harness so that the kill switch is on all the time, and we finally got a spark! Its still not running though but we are one step closer.

I am thinking that part of my problem is that the kill switch for my 1980 xs400 sg isn't working. There are six wires coming from the kill switch but end up at three at the wiring harness: We hooked the multimeter the kill switch plug and the two r/w wires connect when the kill switch is...

Thanks, that helps alot. But to clarrify the white wire is coming off of the red wire from the battery cable? And does the black wire next to the tarp in your second pic just get grounded off at the hole?

Alright, started some digging and I found the starter switch in a box of parts. From looking at the wiring diagram the red battery cable is supposed to go to it then the starter motor. Should I try to reinstall it? There are two wires coming off of it, one ends up at a relay and the igniter...
