    81 XS400 Build

Thanks Gents, as much as I'd like to keep it.... It's time for it to find another good home. I'll be happy just knowing it's out on the road and not rotting away somewhere like when I found it.

    For Sale - 1981 Yamaha XS400 $3800

Located in Killeen, Texas. 1981 Yamaha XS400 Chopper/Bobber/Hardtail. This bike has been completely restored and customized from the ground up. It was a full blown "frame off" restoration. 81 XS400 Build

Thanks for all the kind words. My pops was the reason I got this bike in the first place. I found it in Nebraska, he hauled it from there all the way out to California for me. Well the last piece of the puzzle is completed. Seat pan is finally covered and I think it was the finishing touch...

    81 XS400 Build

Morning all! So it's been a while since I posted or worked on the bike. My father passed away in October and I pretty much put everything on hold for the last couple months. Well it's definitely time to get this thing finished up, I stated back on it about a week ago and have it almost all...

    81 XS400 Build

Thanks xschris! Hey thanks! I think that just means I did it right! Base coat first (black night metallic), let dry then scuff, then I used 3M fine line tape to lay out the flames, masked off the negative space, sprayed the flame candy base coat (orion silver) then airbrushed...

As promised, here are the rest of the tank pics. Not perfect but for my first flame job and motorcycle gas tank I'm pleased! The front and rear fenders will get done the same way. Let me know what y'all think.

    81 XS400 Build

Thanks all! So far I'm pretty pleased with the way it's turning out. Here's a couple more shots with the clear coat finished. The first one will give an idea of how it looks in the shade or at night. Also threw in a sneak peak of the tank. I'll get some more detailed pics of it after the last...

    81 XS400 Build

Logged a few mile of the bike before tear down and spent this week getting things ready for paint. Got the frame done minus clear coat. I had the tank all ready for paint but like a dumb a** I dropped it and added some more body work lol. This is the color I picked for the frame.

Well my jets came in and am really happy with the way it's running. Still need to work out a few idle issues but aside from that I've decided the paint scheme will be red and black.

    Standard Rings for a XS400

Awesome! I wish I would have seen these first! I also ordered the cir-clips with the rings but I'm sure I could have found them on ebay too!

    81 XS400 Build

Few updates, nothing real spectacular. I ordered this licence plate holder and really liked the way it looked but the problem was mounting it. The stock axle was too short and even if it was long enough the axle hole on the licence plate holder was too big. At first I tried to drill and tap the...

Hey all just wanted to share, not sure how many sets they have but this is where I got the replacement rings for my 81 400. Pretty cheap compared to a few other vendors and their shipping was very good as well. They are actual Yamaha Rings too...
