Enrichment problem! (Choke = runs on one)

Nope I follow. Just making sure the semantics were the same. Maybe I will need to tinker a little. It's nothing that has really bothered me...because it doesn't really affect the performance or starting much. But back to my main concern...will it cause any harm if I don't get it worked out?

Enrichment problem! (Choke = runs on one)

Is the start circuit the same thing as the enrichment circuit that was being talked about? My bike starts fine when its cold and the choke is on. It just runs on one cylinder. But if it's warm I can start it without the choke and it will start and run normally, on both cylinders.

Enrichment problem! (Choke = runs on one)

Thats exactly what mine is doing. It idles fine w/o choke (rpm could maybe be a little higher), and performs well throughout the RPM range. Just not when the choke is on. It doesn't seem to affect the starting. I started it last week when it was 17degrees out, and it started well for a small...

Enrichment problem! (Choke = runs on one)

Is there any update or solution to this probelm?? I am having the same issue. When the choke is on Full or Half my bike only runs on the left cylinder (I can touch the right header after it's been running for a while). When I turn the choke off, it will start to run on both cylinders...

Where can I get the header to muffler gaskets?

The OEM part number on Mikes is the same as the one on Partzilla Partzilla does have some good prices on some stuff though, I will have to keep them in mind.

Where can I get the header to muffler gaskets?

Oops. You're right. I just looked back at the purchase. It was about $20 total...with $10 shipping. I was thinking of a different purchase for the XS I made on ebay around the same time. Shipping costs are pricey no matter where you make the purchase. If it's not free, or the rare $4-5...then...

Where can I get the header to muffler gaskets?

Check out MikesXS.net they have tons of XS parts. And I think they have the connecting gaskets for under $10/ea. I bought an oil filter and two engine-to-header pipe gaskets for like $14 shipped, and they got to my house in just a few days.

    Intake manifold vacuum hoses

Alrighty, cool. Just had to double check.

    Intake manifold vacuum hoses

After I first got my 400 it was running on one cylinder, I found out that the vacuum line from the right intake manifold wasn't attached to the petcock. Hooked it back up and it ran well. There's only the one vacuum line from the right side manifold. My question is this; is there supposed to...

    DSI's 1980 XS400

Nope, just riding it as is. It's not really bad, but there's several splits and rips. They don't really show up on the pictures.

I also have pictures! Pardon the so-so pictures and the crappy lighting.

    DSI's 1980 XS400

Oh that'd be cool. I've been looking on the internet for places that do it, but reupholstery is becoming a dying art. I took it to Retrospeed in Belgium. I live in Ozaukee county, so it was pretty close by, they do good work and are really nice.

    DSI's 1980 XS400

Allllllrighty. Finally an update. It's running great, looking decent, and sounding mean. Maintenance wise: It's got two, good-condition, used intake manifolds, a new rear tire, chain lubed and adjusted, oil/filter/filter housing o-ring(leaking)/ pickup screen cleaned/and new pickup screen cover...

    exhaust wrap

I just did a rough calculation (I also plan on wrapping at least my headers) and I came out with needing approx 40 feet of the 2" wrap. That was 50% overlap and about 7 feet of 1.5" pipe (with 1/4" overlap it would be cutting it really close: 24'). I've used the Cool It/Thermo Tec brand (I...

    DSI's 1980 XS400

It broke very easily, right near the head of the bolt (where the holes are). On the plus side, I was able to get the rest of the bolt out of the carb.

    DSI's 1980 XS400

A few days ago I painfully found out it needed a new spark plug boot... Didn't have much feeling in my arm for a good 20 minutes. I replaced both spark plug wires/boots and got new NGK spark plugs. I also tested the cylinder compression. Both cylinders were the same. Today, I determined it...

    DSI's 1980 XS400

Yeah. I figured it out. Adjust at the lever all the way in, then adjust at the engine, then adjust the thumb screw back out. I may need a new clutch cable, there isn't a lot more to be adjusted, and the clutch still doesn't feel as perfect as I'd like it. Oh well, we'll see.

    DSI's 1980 XS400

I recently picked up this 1980 XS400. It's my first XS400. It has little over 11k miles. The old school seat and drag bars on some 2-3" risers are the only mods on it. I'm not too familiar with bikes (cars and trucks are more my area of expertise), but I know the basics. So I have a little...
