    Brake caliper separation after use?

This is a pretty basic question, but brake work is new to me. I just installed a new MC on my 84 xs400, using the rest of my old brake assembly. It works, but when I apply the brakes they stay (mostly) engaged. I think that the piston is backing off, but the brake pads stay tight against...

Do Chinese master cylinders come with pistons?

Just as a follow-up, my MC finally arrived from Hong Kong and it did come complete and whole, and fit on nicely. The down side is that although it is on the right-side handlebar, my mirror will not fit into the thread. The mirror from the left side fits in perfectly, but unfortunately I need...

    Difference between a '82, '83, '84 clutch?

Thanks, JaredK. Sadly, the '82 clutch (which is the same part for the '83-84) I bought over eBay was actually an '81, and so I can't use it. Back to the drawing board looking for a clutch, and so the bike probably won't see the light until spring.

    Difference between a '82, '83, '84 clutch?

Thanks for the info, Lou Ranger. I bought an 82 xs400 clutch. It'll be a while before I can get my hands on it, but hopefully it will work out for my bike.

Do Chinese master cylinders come with pistons?

Hi all, I'm going to buy a new master cylinder for my '83 xs400 Maxim project. I see many available on ebay from China which will fit the bill which I am able to get shipped to Canada. However, what I can 't figure out is whether they all have the piston assembly already in or whether I'd...

    Difference between a '82, '83, '84 clutch?

Hi everyone, This is my first post, and my first rebuild project. This site has a great resource so far in my project, so thanks to everyone in the community. I'm rebuilding an old 1984 Maxim XS400L, which I've had since 1990 and my father had before that. The '84 seems to be the same as...
