    Coils & Wires & Plugs & Stuff

Yeah I have an '82 400. Would I be ok to buy any single output 3ohm aftermarket coils? I have dyna coils on my cb550 that I have loved and just want to upgrade the coils on my xs since they look a little rough and suspect. Plus I will be relocating them into a space that is probably more...

    Coils & Wires & Plugs & Stuff

So I am not really tearing into my bike too much until winter comes here in utah in around november, but Ive been messing around here and there while still keeping it my daily rider. I am looking into replacing all the aspects of the igniton system on my bike for reliability and modern...

    Xs400 rear wheel "conversion"

Haha I know right!? I think the skinnier tire will look better for my bike too. I'm going after a more upright dirt tracker scrambler look with some dual sport tires. If I can remember I'll post a picture once I get the wheels set up on it.

    Xs400 rear wheel "conversion"

I'm glad that you mentioned this as I was wondering if 1.85 was a little too narrow. If I do end up going with the 1.85 I will definitely run a 110 tire. Thanks for the heads up.

    Xs400 rear wheel "conversion"

I am looking into setting up my '82 xs400 with an 18" rear wheel. Mikes xs sells at 18" rim and spoke set that says will work for xs400 as a rear wheel. Is this saying that I can use my stock hub, sprocket, and drum brake from my stock 16" wheel with the new rim and spokes?

Wanted - 18" spoked and drum braked rear wheel!

I know this is older, but just wondering if the wheel ever sold?

xs400 w/ DIY muffler (carb tuning help)

Hey guys! I recently took on the challenge of building my own (cheap a$$) mufflers for my '82 xs400HS. Like everyone else, I wanted a grumpier sound out of the exhaust and wanted to try to make something myself before moving on to a full 2-1 system in the future. So I put together some...

What year are the gas tanks from?

    Compatible lockset

Rather than buying a new lockset you could just get a key made for the locks already on your bike. You could take off the ignition or any other part that has a lock on it (I've taken in a whole gas tank before!) and take it to a locksmith and they should be able to make you a new key for a...

    Dgoodsy's xs400 maintain/restore/build thread

I would highly recommend investing in a high quality battery. I have used antigravity brand on my bikes and absolutely love them. I have an 8 cell antigravity in my 82 xs400 right now. I know a lot of people who buy cheap batteries and have nothing but problems with them or they just last a...

    82 xs400HS Vacuum

Hey guys! I picked up this sweet little 82 a couple of weeks ago and have loved working on it. This is my first, as having owned Hondas all my life, and currently own a CB550 as my other "fast bike". I got this one to be my daily comfy cruiser and keep it so my I can ride two up with my girl...

    Hanging by a Thread

Looks like a very solid buy, congrats and welcome! I just got my first xs400 a bit ago and absolutely love it. Very simple and well designed machine. (I've been into Honda CB's all my life prior). I have gotten grief from some people when they find out about how much I had paid for my bikes and...

How to raise the rear end of a 81 tank?

Maybe you should lower the front instead of raising the back??

Brand New xs400 Owner With Electrical Problems

Thanks so much for the advice. It does seem pretty rare to find an xs400 around here. This is the first I have come across after 6 or so months of searching. Its definitely something I will have to think about for a couple days. I do value your thoughts and appreciate your comments. Thanks a bunch.

Brand New xs400 Owner With Electrical Problems

Im in the process of purchasing an 81 xs400 off a guy. He initally was asking $1,500 for it. I talked him down to $1,100. Then we went to check it out and it doesnt run. He said he had it running 4 months ago and that it just needs a new battery. But we checked it out and it doesnt have any...
