Hey guys, I'm selling my 1977 XS400 because I am moving and I'm not sure how much I could reasonably ask for it. KBB says $800 if in excellent condition but this seems to be a pretty uncommon bike in my area. I usually get 2 or 3 people asking me to sell it per summer. Mine has 23k miles on it and it could use some work but has been my daily driver, without fail, for the past 3 summers. The rear left turn signal does not work and it also needs a new speedo cable ($12). There is a small dent on the left side of the tank but 95% of people don't notice it because it's on the left side and the handlebars usually hang in front of it.

It is stock save for a few things but I have the original parts still. I have the title.

I need to sell it asap. What's a reasonable asking price?

Looks like a pretty decent bike, nice color and the fact it's been ridden often and proven reliable is all working for it.

The rear tire would need replacing soon though, right? Looks a bit square. How's the front? And how old is the battery? and the brake pads/shoes? And how's the chain and sprockets? And is it well adjusted, the valve clearance set recently and carbs synched?

If those are all good, I'd say you can ask a good 900 for it. 600-700 offers shouldn't be too hard. Looks like a solid, fair bike. But in the end, you can ask whatever you like.. The price is whatever someone is willing to pay for it :)
