1981 XS400 not starting.

I recently got a 1981 XS400 that I bought not running and was fairly confident I could get it going. Unfortunately, I can't figure this out. I cleaned the carb out, checked spark as well as compression. I know that none of those are an issue right now, but I'm not sure what the issue could be. The guy I bought it from said it was starting first kick (battery is pretty dead) about a week before I bought it but decided to sell it because his kid got a new bike. I'm thinking maybe the timing is screwed up, but I'm honestly not sure. Can't find any reliable sources that can tell me about my issue right now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would have to do the compression test again, can't remember off the top of my head. I'll try sourcing a new battery next I guess
