alternator

hey guys im new arou d these bikes and im building an 80 special for my girfriend i got the project bike to start after a couple part clean up and tuning.. well anyway my question is do these bike stay on if you pull the battery out once its running or can you kickstart it with no battery cause shell die if i pull out the battery is that a alternator problem ?

Not an alternator problem these bikes are meant to run with a battery as the spark is taken from it. I think there was one thread that delved into the idea of going batteryless but that person upgraded to charging system. If your are willing to go kickstart only you can get a smaller battery but that's about it without major modification.

alrighty man appreciate the answer not really woried about getting rid of the battery just wanted to know if that was normal cuase my bike is pretty old too but will stay on with no battery.. learing more and more on these 400s.. are 650s and bigger bikes the same way ?
