I wanna change the stance of my bike a little as I bob it and wanted to know if there is any negatives to lowering the front end by sliding the forks up the trees an inch or two?
I think you can go just over an inch without clearance issues. If you go too much more the top of the forks will hit the lower tree before the forks bottom out. That's not good. That's why people lower forks internally by limiting travel with a spacer on the damper rod.
i lowered my '79 forks by sliding the tubes 1.5 inches and haven't had any trouble after 75 miles or so. i want to dial in the right performance and look before cutting the internals. i have Clubmans on it so as far as handlebar clearance, YMMV.
