After taking apart and cleaning the carbs on my '78 xs400E(Mikuni BS34) in an attempt to try to solve an overflowing carb problem, i discovered my gaskets were disintegrated and one of the brass floats was cracked and filled with gas.

mikesxs is out of stock of the brass floats, but there are some on ebay...

Are the brass type floats pretty much universal for Mikuni's? they look the same.

anything wrong with plastic floats?

Pretty much I would say.As for plastic floats if the weight the same as the brass I would assume they act the same as metal ones.I have delt with both and never had any problems.

I prefer the brass ones. Make sure they are for a 77-82 BS34. The xs360 ones and the BS38's are wider and will not work.

I will be checking float height for sure!!

the only brass ones i can find on ebay are not in the US and carry a hefty shipping fee.

the plastic floats on mikesxs for BS34 carbs say it Fits: 1980-84 XS650 Stock 34mm. Mikuni CV Carbs.

Also replaces Brass float used on early 1980 XS650 "Specials". OEM Ref.# 3H5-14985-00

my SECA has plastic floats, for what it's worth. I think both are fine, plastic may get brittle over time, and brass may produce some rust if it sits for a long time i guess

whatever floats your ... erm... floats :D
