They are off a 82-84 xs650 They painted them black in 83/84 from the factory for the heritage line.

Seems to have all the hallmarks of the BS34 Mikuni Carb.

ah great cheers guys, the choke looks like it should run to a cable, any idea what the other end of the cable would run to?

That style of carbs where set up for a thumb op choke used on the later bikes. They are BS34's but off a xs650 NOT a xs400
